Inspire Me

This is another of my favourite poems and the last line has been in my head lately. Tread softly.

Aedh wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

W.B. Yeats

  1. Definitely amongst my favourites of all time as well – those last lines in particular.
    The place where they struck me the most was in the beginning of a highly under-rated movie called Equilibrium where they were quoted by the inimitable Sean Bean in one of the most intense movie moments.

    • Yes, I am aware of its presence in “Equilibrium”! I was first introduced to it as part of an exercise in a Drama class … beautiful, beautiful poem.
